An ambitious, open innovation policy rooted in our territory
Sorbonne Paris Nord
University (USPN) is developing an innovation policy that
embraces the richness and diversity of its research, its
programs, and its regional roots. This policy is based on a
clear vision: transforming our scientific knowledge into
lasting societal, economic, and cultural impact.
Innovation at
USPN goes beyond the scope of research promotion. While
the latter focuses on transferring research results to society
and the economy—intellectual property protection, licenses,
partnership research contracts, creation of startups—our
concept of innovation is broader and more cross-disciplinary.
It encompasses all forms of new value creation, whether
technological, social, cultural, or organizational, and
whether they arise directly from research results or emerge
from collaborative dynamics with our partners.
This vision enables us to accelerate the commercialization of
our laboratories' research results while developing a genuine
ecosystem of innovation. We support the creation of innovative
start-ups and encourage student entrepreneurship. We promote
social and cultural innovations developed by our teams in the
humanities and social sciences (HSS). We are strengthening our
interactions with the local, national, and international
socio-economic ecosystem. And we are developing the societal
impact of our research, particularly in health and in areas
that address major contemporary challenges.
Our method is based
on a cross-disciplinary approach that brings together
research, education, and local communities. The Maison des
Sciences Numériques (LaMSN)
embodies this vision as a hub for interdisciplinary innovation
where researchers, students, entrepreneurs, and socio-economic
partners come together. Fostering communities—incubators, PhD
students-entrepreneurs, project leaders from public research
institutions—creates the conditions for open and collaborative
innovation. Our presence in Seine-Saint-Denis and within the
Campus Condorcet allows us to combine scientific excellence
with regional responsibility.
The Vice Presidency for Innovation coordinates this ambitious
strategy with the support of three thematic delegates covering
biomedical sciences, entrepreneurship, and the promotion of
humanities and social sciences, as well as our strategic
partnerships with the CNRS, INSERM, SATTs, and PUIs. Together,
we are building an innovative university that puts its
knowledge at the service of society and supports all its
members—researchers, teacher-researchers, PhD students, and
undergraduates—in their innovation and valorization projects.
Innovation at Sorbonne Paris Nord University means transforming the excellence of our research into tangible impact to meet the challenges of our age.
